Trust Aoraki Limited is a charitable organisation that exists for the purpose of raising funds for the community.

For the 2011/12 financial year Trust Aoraki Limited, formally South Canterbury Charities Limited, has distributed $1,264,808 into the local communities of Timaru, Temuka, Kurow, Otematata, Twizel & Christchurch.

A outstanding result for a relatively small charity. The success of this charity is largely due to the site operators at the contributing sites, The Old Bank Cafe & Bar in Timaru, the Crown Hotel in Temuka, the Otematata Lakes Hotel, the Kurow Hotel, The Top Hut, Twizel and Alvarados Mexican Cantina, Phillipstown, Christchurch.

Our motto is locals for locals, and having a board comprised of local people ensures we make informed decisions.

The main issue for us is that we are the only pub charity that can say we are 100% local.
No other pub charity does this. Our supporting gaming machine operators can proudly say that they are supporting the local community 100%.

We have strong support from the Department of Internal Affairs for our distribution process and our focus on local decisions made by locals.

We would encourage other establishments in the region to join our successful Charity and to ensure the proceeds from local gaming machines remain in the local community.
The challenge was originally taken up by Bob Mason and The Old Bank Cafe & Bar, with the addition of the Crown Hotel Temuka in early 2008. The challenge is open to all of the local pubs.

We are sure that if establishments are community focused they will come on board, and the local community will continue to benefit from our local pub charity organisation.

We try and make the process of filling in the application form for funding easier by making ourselves available either to have a meeting in person or to talk through the application process on the phone.
The fact that we are in town and local, means we are more approachable and accessible.

There must be no intent by a hotel/site and the recipient of funds to enter into a verbal or written agreement where there is a clear commercial benefit to the hotel, for example, backhanders, the purchase of alcohol, patronage of the hotel, etc.

No procuration fee, commission and/or discount, contra arrangement or payment of any kind may be entered into with any persons who is an employee or member of Trust Aoraki Limited.
No grant may be linked to, or be conditional on, any site-related arrangement.

The allocation of funds is made by Trust Aoraki Limited and is an unconditional gift.
No portion is claimed by Trust Aoraki Limited as a deduction for Goods and Services Tax paid.
If an applicant is GST registered, only the GST exclusive amount can be funded (as GST is not a real cost to such organisations).
